To Whom It May Concern:
Several law students and attorneys in Wisconsin are currently working on establishing
an Asian Bar Association with a multicultural perspective and membership base.
There are a number of reasons for starting such an organization. First, there
is no statewide organization that supports Asian attorneys in Wisconsin. Second,
the number of Asian law students graduating from Wisconsin’s law schools
have increased dramatically over the past five years and will continue to
grow in the years to come. Finally, we need an organization that will support
these graduates and encourage them to remain in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Asian Bar Association has four long-term goals: Professional
Development, Community Service, Coalition Building and Mentoring. These four
long-term goals will be developed incrementally with the first phase focusing
on Professional Development. As the organization becomes more established,
the other three goals will be implemented. (Please see the attached action
plan for a more in-depth look at the four long-term goals).
At present, our primary objective is to establish a solid framework for an
Asian Bar Association. Our committee is in the process of contacting other
attorneys and gathering information on how to start a specialty bar. WABA will be hosting meetings every other month. Please check this website for future dates and locations of meetings.
We appreciate any feedback or input you can provide including names of other
attorneys in Wisconsin who would be interested in joining the Wisconsin Asian
Bar Association. If you have any questions or would like to become involved,
please contact Yer Vang at (yervang@wiasianbar.org).
Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Wisconsin Asian Bar Association Executive Board
